Handa named Regents’ Entrepreneur by University System of Georgia Board of Regents

Congratulations to Dr. Hitesh Handa on being named a Regents’ Entrepreneur by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents! Dr. Handa is an associate professor in the UGA College of Engineering and a faculty member in the New Materials Institute.
His research focuses on developing nitric oxide-releasing biomaterials that prevent infections and blood clots, which can be caused by implanted medical devices. He is the co-founder of two startups, including Nytricx Inc., has eight issued patents and 25 more pending. His recent grant awards include more than $5.5 million in federal commercialization grants from the Department of Defense, Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, National Institutes of Health, and others.
The Regents’ Entrepreneur recognizes faculty members whose work has transformed research into commercial applications. It is initially granted for three years with the possibility of extension and includes a one-time cash award. Handa is one of two UGA faculty members selected for this honor at the USG Board of Regents’ meeting on February 11.
